It was in 2008, when Radha Goenka began a volunteering service to provide English education to underprivileged children in Worli. Over the course of two years alone, “Pehlay Akshar” developed proficient English language skills amongst 30 students, and partnered with government schools to implement its in-house Schooling Program that blends global best practices of teaching and classroom learning. The organization eventually partnered with state schools beyond Worli across Maharashtra to provide training to more than 10,000 teachers into international pedagogical practices, spreading the impact of quality education across numerous government schools. Even during the tumultuous time of the pandemic, the organization was able to recalibrate its strategy to organize an effective digital classroom, reaching more than 3 lakh students and five thousand more teachers.
At present the organization continues to provide quality education and mentorship to young students across government schools, having been invited for partnership by the state government to work with about 80 BMC schools. The curriculum designed by Pehlay Akshar has made its dynamism by adapting to the growing needs of the professional market, for which students are provided with the best quality education in English language and other subjects. Teachers, too, have been provided with continuous training to ensure that their methods remain updated with the best practices recognized at the global level.
