Headstrong is a peer-led movement empowering adolescents to understand, talk about, and advocate for mental well-being—in schools and beyond. By training youth to become mental health champions in their communities, we’re building a generation that leads with empathy, resilience, and care.
In today’s world of a neverending stream of notifications and social media, Navya has been working with Pehlay Akshar to organize interactive sessions for young children, to expose them to music as a therapeutic medium, and help foster harmony, emotional presence, and human connection. Using music as a vehicle for mental health and emotional well-being, Pehlay Akshar’s English Room at the Prabhadevi municipal school in Mumbai was transformed into a space where students were guided through safe, judgement-free acapella sessions to encourage them to share, be themselves freely, and to find their voice.
Sessions focusing on group singing, rhythm, and storytelling were conducted, seeking to help students connect with their emotions, build resilience, and to enter a state of “flow” - an immersive experience during which anxieties and worries wash away, and attention is centred. Teachers noted a marked difference in students who attended these sessions - their classrooms were more confident, calm, and more likely to participate in social engagements.
These sessions culminated in a performance in July 2025, put up by the students of the workshops. Performing songs like “Ajeeb Dastan” and “Kesariyaan”, Nayva hoped to help people tune out the noise, and tune into themselves.
